Sleep-deprived parents drugging their babies.
Desperate parents have taken to drugging their infants with the unprescribed and unregulated synthetic, sleep hormone melatonin, in a bid to get more sleep.
Gold Coast certified baby sleep expert and midwife Amanda Bude, from Groovy Babies says that she has seen an increase in parents asking if they should try melatonin on their babies.
“Melatonin is being mistaken for a sleeping pill,” she says. “Exhausted parents are relying on a pill to solve a problem, and drugging their children with a substance with unknown long term side effects, is definitely not the answer.”
